Val is a self-taught artist who veers between different media; watercolour, collage and ink, acrylic or oils, and loves to experiment with colour. She so enjoys playing with different hues that there can be no question of following convention and her subjects are equally as varied; cows peering over a fence, beach goers, an overgrown allotment, Moroccan souks, flowers and boats!
She is told that her style is recognisable – loose, impressionistic and colourful and she feels that 2015 is going to be an exciting year for her art work. Val finds much of her inspiration in how happy observing the colours of life makes her and transferring them to paper and canvas, often motivated by what she calls ‘happy accidents’ with the paint, which suggest a theme or mood.
Her love of ‘loose’ watercolour and latterly her intense colour combinations in acrylic, oil and collage have led her to give regular workshops and exhibit all over the Westcountry including several times at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
Val permanently exhibits in Plymstock Gallery and Framers in Elburton, The Mayflower Gallery on the Barbican, Plymouth but also hangs her pictures in seasonal exhibitions and joins in with the South Hams Open Studios every autumn.
She has a lovely book ‘Painting in Her True Colours’ which showcases her artistic versatility, including cards, booklets and painting classes – all available to purchase via her website: www.valmorsman.com.
